A Journey of a Thousand Screams…

Taking off at the Screamin’ Gator Adventure Depot, the Screamin’ Gator Zip Line at Gatorland begins gently as zip liners are given their gear and a safety briefing by the helpful guides. Once safely harnessed into the line, the zip liners are gently pushed off a platform at over 65 feet high to tackle the initial zip line called Gator Grunt Run. It is named after the sound that baby alligators make. The introductory zipline stretches 247 feet with maximum speeds over 15 mph. Zipline users have this take-off point to steel their nerves and get their motors revved up.

The Gat-OR Dun Run comes next with its 287-ft gravity-defying length. At 20 mph, zip liners soar over a wild waterfall, lush landscape and Gatorland’s collection of American alligators and jumping Cuban crocodiles. Although they are safely clipped in, zipline riders are sure to feel their heart pounding at every foot they cover on this segment of the Screamin’ Gator Zip Line at Gatorland.

The five-story high De-Nile section of the Screamin’ Gator Zip Line at Gatorland looms ahead. This is the 50-foot part of the zipline that traverses the length of the sanctuary for Gatorland’s Nile crocodiles. Down below are Gatorland’s star reptiles probably wondering what that flurry of limbs is doing so high up. Don’t worry folks. Dundee the saltwater croc and Pops the ancient giant are just sunning themselves down there.
The Widow Maker is the fourth in the Screamin’ Gator Zip Line at Gatorland’s series of towers. It is elevated 7 stories high and brings guests over 500 feet of line at nearly 30 miles per hour. Over a hundred of Gatorland’s snapping residents lie below in the Alligator Breeding Marsh. This, ladies and gentlemen, is none other than the reptiles’ feeding area. Tuck those legs and don’t even think of letting go!

The fifth tower promises to be even more terrifying as zip liners struggle to keep their balance across a swinging bridge in the Hold Your Water Crossing. That’s 162 feet to cross over, sonny!

Still think you’re tough? Then go for the closing run at the Screamin’ Gator Zip Line at Gatorland’s final zipline challenge called Deliverance. Launching from a 33-foot tower, riders duel against one another at speeds of over 30 mph. Finish strong, finish first. That’s the name of the game!

Aside from being in appropriate apparel for sporty zip lining, zip line users need to be in closed toe shoes so they don’t injure their feet somewhere. The required height is 37”; weight must be 275 lbs. tops or at least 60 lbs. A weigh-in may be required of guests. No recording equipment of any kind may be brought along by zip liners as the zipline goes through hundreds of feet of animal exhibits and public walkways.
